Winter is one of my favorite seasons to capture in paint. I am looking forward to getting out during this upcoming season.
This is a painting that recently sold this summer at the Radius Gallery in Missoula, MT.
I recently completed this shot, and another, for a calendar titled “Glacial Lake Missoula – Sanders County by Air”, with aerial photos by Dave Bennett. This image was painted to show what Glacial Lake Missoula might have looked liked, and the massive 2000 ft ice dam that held back the waters.
Here are a few quick winter gouache sketches. I’ve been inspired by a Russian artist lately by the name Stepan Kolesnikoff. The first one is loosely based off one of his works. The others are just out of my head.
