I have a painting up for auction again this year at the Hockaday Musuem of Art.  I painted the piece using a mixture of Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue.  The surface I was working on allowed me to rub back out of the painting; allowing me to soften particular areas, and create patches of snow by removing paint.

Here is the digital sketch I created that helped me work out my composition.

This is a grouping of cottonwood trees that I have been eying for a while.
I took advantage again of the extended light and warm spring weather and got out again for a bit of plein air.

Sorry for the delay in posts the last couple of months, other work projects have been taking up all of my time.  Hopefully one of these days I will be able to share the fruits of my labor.  In the mean time, here is a plein air piece I painted last night.  There is a lot of burning going on at the moment, so the smoke created a nice layer of atmosphere.

Merry Christmas to all!
I’ve been reading Alan Quatermain as of late.  This image is inspired from it in a very loose, or abstract sort of way.  I hope to illustrate more from the book if time allows.
